Cord Ligament

Fabric

A rippled surface resembling ropes or braids.

The ripples are smooth and flowing, indicating a slow, steady flow of magma.

Color

Gray to dark gray, sometimes black

Mineral Composition

Mostly basaltic in origin, rich in: plagioclase, pyroxene

Formation Method

It is formed as a result of low-viscosity pulp slowly flowing over the surface. As the outer surface cools, the inner pulp continues to flow, causing the surface to wrinkle and form ropes.

Tectonic Environment

Usually occurs in quiet or flowing eruptions such as basaltic volcanoes.

Geographical location

Arabian Shield Rocks, Saudi Arabia, Harrat Rahat
